From the recordings Fish Tales and This Here Guitar
The guitar I sing about is my 1993 Limited Edition Takamine steel-string cutaway acoustic. I actually did give it to my son but wound up taking it back. She and I aren't done yet. :)
Lyrics
THIS HERE GUITAR
I bought years ago
With money I didn't have
How I still don’t know
But the first time I held her
And I played a chord or two
I knew I had to have her
That nothing else would do
THIS HERE GUITAR
Don't have no fancy name
You see she ain’t inlaid with gold
I love her just the same
You know we've been to hell & back
You can say we've paid our dues
We just keep on a keepin’ on
This one and one make two
CHORUS:
THIS HERE GUITAR
Has been like my lover
There've been a few before her
But there'll never be another
Weil, this here guitar
May look like wood and some strings
But when you start to play her
I swear the angels sing
THIS HERE GUITAR
She knows me through and through
She knows that I’m not talented
She knows what I can't do
But she tries her best to help me
She gets me through my songs
So, I stand behind her and I sing
She leads, I tag along
CHORUS (solo)
BRIDGE:
You deserve much better
A gentler caress
Someone who can really play
Not my fingers’ jumbled mess
But are lots are cast together
It was preordained, I guess
You know I'll do the best I can
You'll have to do the rest
THIS HERE GUITAR
I’ll give to my son
I’ll teach him how to play some chords
I’ll teach him how to strum
Then it will be up to them
We’ll have to wait and see
I hope she’s half as good to him
As she’s been to me
CHORUS
