From the recordings Fish Tales and Never Written a Love Song
We stumbled upon the idea of the improvised trumpet duet for this song during the tracking session. The engineer accidentally played back two takes of the solo at the same time. The producer and I looked at each other and smiled. :)
Lyrics
I’m too old for this
I kept thinking to myself
These feelings long put up
On some dusty closet shelf
My heart’s more pragmatic now
I’ve gotta use my head
The world’s gonna pass me by
I’ve gotta get ahead
But there you were that day
And little did l know
That soon I’d find myself
With my best-laid plans laid low
Now the world spins upside down
Or is it right side up
It’s getting hard to tell
But it doesn't matter much
CHORUS:
I’VE NEVER WRITTEN A LOVE SONG
Though I’ve tried a time or two
Guess I never was inspired
Then I met you
Now the words are pouring from me
I’ve finally found my muse
For others it may be no big deal
But for me it sure is news
I’ve played the game before
But it never turned out right
I learned to turn away
When I felt the bug might bite
You can give it all you've got
And still it comes out wrong
I’d long since given up
But then you came along
CHORUS (solo)
Mirror, mirror on the wall
Tell me who’s that man I see
It’s kind of funny
‘Cause he looks a lot like me
He’s got all my features
But the smile looks out of place
But don't take me wrong
I’ll get use to his face
CHORUS
